Blog Tour: The Donor by Nikki Rae!

So, y'all know from a past blog post or two that I'm definitely a Nikki Rae fan, and recently I was asked to be a part of the blog tour for this excited new novella series. Of course I had to say yes -- So happy to share with you all more about it and my review!

About the Book:
[Disclaimer: This is a serial novella that will be told in parts about the length of a short story (20-30 pages)]
Casey Williams and her family are poor. Her parents work non-stop and so does she, just so they can keep the trailer roof from leaking.
They’re getting by fine enough when the headaches start. Then there’s the nosebleeds. And the inevitable doctor’s bills.
Fortunately for Casey, there’s MyTrueMatch.com: an exclusive, quick, and almost easy way to pay it all back before her parents even have to know.
All she has to do is give a man she’s never met whatever he wants from her body.

My Thoughts:

Nikki Rae has done it again! I loved her Sunshine series and this new novella series is sure to be just as good. I love how, even though the author created a whole new characters unique from her previous series, she still kept to that written voice that I absolutely fell in love with before. This story is definitely a concept you don't see in the Kindle store everyday, and one that I cannot wait to see continue.

I don't really want to give a whole lot of description here because this is, of course, a novella and I for one am not a fan of spoilers in reviews. I will say this: There is a lot in this tiny package and I know that I anxiously await the next installment. I read this in less than an hour, but the idea drew me in enough that it has me still thinking about it now. Yes, this author's first awesome series was no fluke at all, she has definite talent. I can't wait to see what Nikki Rae cooks up for us next!

Author Spotlight: Nikki Rae(Review Included!)

Buy the Books: Amazon|Smashwords|B&N
So excited to be talking about an amazing author I've only recently started reading, Nikki Rae. I've read and loved all three of the books above and since I read them so close to each other I thought I'd do things a little bit differently than usual and do a sort of author/series spotlight and review the series as a whole instead of just each book. Then over the next little bit, I'll gradually upload my more in depth reviews of each book. Sound good?  First, a little bit about each of the books:

About Sunshine:

18 year old Sophie Jean is pretty good at acting normal. Sure, she’s not exactly happy, but happiness is nothing compared to being like everyone else. She can pretend she’s not allergic to the sun. She can hide what her ex-boyfriend did to her. She can cover up the scars she’s made for herself. Ignore anything. Forget anything. Then Myles enters her life, and he has more than a few secrets of his own. When accident after accident keeps happening to Sophie, she can’t help noticing that he’s everywhere. That he knows too much. That she’s remembering too much.

It’s one thing covering up her own dark past, but does she really need to worry about people finding out just how much Myles likes her? Or that despite how much she doesn’t want to repeat past mistakes, she kind of likes him back? Not to mention the fact that she now has to conceal that Myles drinks blood-that he says he’s about four hundred years old.

She almost forgot about that part.

But Sophie has no plans to ruin the normal life she has created for herself. She can deal with this little glitch, no problem. Even if word has gotten around to the wrong vampire about Sophie and Myles, even if she’s putting the few people she loves at risk. Suddenly, those who were monsters before are just people, and the monsters? They’re real. Now being a normal human being is the least of her problems. Now she has to stay alive.

About Sun Poisoned:

Sophie’s life has changed. She’s moved to New York, she’s playing music for new people, and she’s making new friends. Then there’s Myles, and the fact that he is now her boyfriend—and everyone knows it.

She’s not exactly normal, living in a half-human, half-vampire world, but she’s finally, truly happy. However, some parts of Sophie and Myles’ old lives still hide in the dark, waiting for the right opportunity to strike.

Sophie’s having nightmares again, but they aren't about her; Myles is hiding something as well, something Sophie isn’t sure she wants to know.

And one lie will change everything.

No matter how hard she tries to cover up the marks her monsters have left behind, they never truly go away, and Myles’ monsters are no different.

Once again, Sophie’s caught between life and death, but this time, only she can save herself.

About Sun Damage:

Life wasn't what Sophie was expecting, so why should death be any different?
She’s come back from swimming between the two, and every problem she left is still there. And then some.
There’s the human world, where she has a brother on the verge of ruins, band mates all set to go on tour, and people she thought she wouldn't be seeing for a long time showing up.
Then there’s her new world, where she’s seeing and hearing things that should not be heard or seen. Where Myles knows more about her than she could have ever guessed. She still doesn't know exactly why Michael is tormenting her, but somehow, everything is connected.
The monsters are closing in on all sides and the question is, will Sophie be able to defeat them before it all ends?

My Thoughts on the Series:
4 of 5 Stars
First off, before I even get started can I say how much I love the book covers? I try to generally shy away from talking about book covers(not sure why!), but these just really jump out at me and make me curious about the books. This isn't a review of those, though. In fact, I hadn't even seen the covers when I agreed to review these three books, they sounded amazing on their own.

All Sophie wanted was to be normal, but I'm pretty sure that's not in the cards for her! I'm trying to keep this as spoiler free as possible, but I must say that I loved these books. I was expected some sort of average vampire-like paranormal romance somewhere in the ballpark of perhaps the Vampire Academy series, you know half-vamps and such and don't get me wrong, I do love those books but sometimes you just want something new. The Sunshine series gave that to me! The books are so much more than just another paranormal love story. I found myself really connecting with Sophie and got a real case of the sniffles at the fact that all she wanted was to be "normal." Yes, I do realize that I have been really emotional lately guys, bear with me. Sophie really surprises me though, she's this strong amazing person, and although she's not really in it alone she has some independence in her that I really admired.

You know how sometimes in a book series the first book is better and the rest can be kind of meh? This so wasn't true with these! The pacing and writing are consistent, save for the fact that in my opinion the books got better as they went along. I can honestly say that if you are looking for an interesting New Adult series much different from the norm, yet(for lack of a better term) awesomely awesome, I highly recommend the Sunshine series by Nikki Rae. I doubt you'll regret it!
