My Thoughts:
This is another one of those books where you finish and you just say: Wow! The Coal Elf was a fresh an unique read from the very start and the author has certainly found herself a new fan in me!
Ember is a female Coal Elf--one of the few. It wasn't what she expected-- her family is up above living the good life designing the stuff you usually associate elves with, but have you ever stopped to think who handles all the coal that gets handed out the the little boys and girls on the "naughty" list? Yeah, that's the Coal Elves. She has it rough from the beginning of the job, working so hard to prove herself. I found Ember extremely brave, strong, and just an altogether amazing elf to read about. I fell absolutely in love with the story line and I was turning the pages so fast it took no time at all for me to finish the book! Like it says above, Santa is real but this is far from your childhood Christmas tale-- but it sure is a great book.
I honestly can't really find anything to really critique about this book. The story line flows perfectly and has you constantly looking forward to what's going to happen next. The author has that sort of "story telling" writing style(if that makes sense) that makes you feel like you're being told an old, forgotten fairy tale. I definitely recommend this book to fans of something different and I look forward to reading more from this author myself!
