Interview and Giveaway with Jim Landwehr

Hey y'all! Today I am happy to have author Jim Landwehr, who wrote Dirty Shirt: A Boundary Waters Memoir, with us for an interview and giveaway. So, without further ado, let's get started!

1.)    Hey Jim! Thank you so much for being here today! Would you mind introducing yourself and telling us a bit about your book, Dirty Shirt?

Sure, thanks for hosting me, Paige. My book Dirty Shirt: A Boundary Waters Memoir, began as a simple attempt to document stories of trips I took to the area with my brothers and friends in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Over time, the stories became numerous and detailed enough, to consider making it into a book. My writing instructor asked if I had considered doing just that. I said no. She said do it. I did, and 260 pages later, I had a Dirty Shirt.

2.)    When did it first click for you that you liked to write?

I have always liked to write, but my first memory of actually doing it was in fourth grade. I wrote little stories on half-pages of paper and made a book out of them. Interestingly enough, I met my wife through writing as well. We became pen pals in the late 80’s and because the written word allows a bit more transparency, we became good friends, then dated and married. Coming up on 25 years!

3.)    What made you decide to write this memoir in particular?

It was mainly the feeling that I needed to preserve these stories of family relationships, adventure and bonding for future generations. Then, as I workshopped the stories in my writing class, people kept saying how much they enjoyed the humor and could relate to the pieces and characters. It was an organic outgrowth of just “getting the stories down,” as my writing instructor Kathie Giorgio always encouraged. Get them down. Fix them and rearrange them later.

4.) Do you currently have any other books in the works(would love to read more from you some day!)?

Yes, I do. I have a collection of poetry that I’m hoping will be published by early spring. I’m also working on a book about the house I grew up in in Minnesota with my five siblings and our single-parent mother in the seventies. It, too, will include lots of humor and a few stories about my obsession with fire as a kid.

5.)    What was your favorite thing about writing Dirty Shirt? Least favorite?

The best part was taking what I thought was just an average, kind of fun story and recreating it to be funny, entertaining, and something that people could relate to. The least favorite part was the third and fourth edits of it when I began to look at the book as my “problem child.” I was easily distracted by my newer, “shinier” pieces and dreaded going back to refine Dirty Shirt. I’m glad I did though, because it made a good book much better.

6.)    Do you like reading yourself? What are some of your favorite books?

Yes, I love reading. Unfortunately when a book comes out an author is dedicated to making it succeed by spending oodles of time promoting it (or paying a publicist to do it, which eats into your profits), so I don’t get near the time to read that I would like. I have a few authors who I can’t get enough of including Wisconsin’s own Michael Perry, Bill Bryson and Donald Miller. I can read fiction, but it seems I’m reading a lot more nonfiction lately. For a link to some of my favorites visit: Books By Jim Landwehr’s Bed. Like I said, I wish I had more time to read, but as a writer, writing comes first, reading second.

7.) When writing, do you stick to a strict schedule, or do you tend to mix it up a bit?

Random times, usually at night. I do write pretty religiously on Saturday afternoons for a couple of hours at a coffee shop.

8.) If you could listen to one song for the rest of your life, and that song only, what would it be? Why?

You Took, by the Church. It comes from one of my favorite albums of all time, The Blurred Crusade. It is one of the most complex songs I’ve heard, with tempo changes and lots of jangly guitar work throughout. I never tire of it.

9.) Seven is my favorite number! Could you sum up Dirty Shirt in 7 words?

Stories of adventure, family, laughter and loss.

Thank you for the chance to talk about my writing and my book, Paige. Dirty Shirt can be found at www.electioPublishing.com, Amazon, Barnes and Noble online and iTunes.
*****
I absolutely loved reading Dirty Shirt and now two of you will get the chance! Jim has graciously offered to do a giveaway here on Electively Paige where two of you will get the chance to win an e-copy! Giveaway will end 9/19, so y'all have plenty of time to earn those extra daily entries for tweeting and the bonus entry. :) Good luck! I hope you love the book as much as I did!

Publication: April 17, 2014
Pages: 115
Genre: Adult/Romance
Amazon | B&N | Kobo

SYNOPSIS
**Mature Content Warning** Recommended for ages 17+ due to language and sexual content.

Standing over six feet tall with tight black jeans and his signature black cowboy hat, he draws attention every time he sets foot on stage...

CJ Tanner is the sexy lead singer of an up and coming country band.

While doing a radio station interview at Nashville, Tennessee’s top rated country music station WSIX, CJ meets Paden Thomas.

During the course of the interview the sexual tension between them is palpable…

When CJ invites Paden to come watch his band play at Nashville’s popular downtown club called Cat’s Cradle their relationship starts heating up.

It doesn’t take long before a mysterious series of unexplainable and dangerous events start happening, leaving Paden suspicious that someone is trying to keep them apart.

Feeling that their safety is in jeopardy, Paden has no other choice than to break up with CJ…

Yet again, another unexpected turn of events puts Paden in harms way with potentially devastating consequences.

Will CJ show up in time to rescue her? Or will these events take a toll on their relationship?

MY THOUGHTS:
*I received this book for review from Literary Quill Promotions, but this in no way affects my thoughts as expressed in this review*
So, being a huge country music fan and living just about an hour and a half from Nashville, I was excited to dive right into this book. Paden and CJ were great characters, and I think that was what really drew me into the story. In fact, this was one of those books where I was like "well, just a few pages before bed" and then look up to find it's 4:30 and I have to be up in an hour and a half and so might as well finish the book off anyways, right? I mean, who needs sleep?
This book had a lot of suspense to it, that really added and made it less run of the mill. Though I love the genre, it's getting to where a lot of the books follow a similar pattern so what I loved about Country Love is that it really paved its own path. It was a great story to get lost in for a few hours and I definitely recommend. Just not before bed!

Blog Tour: Finding Keepers by Kristi Strong

Genre: YA Contemporary
Release date: July 30th 2014
Purchase: Paperback | Kindle | Nook

Synopsis via Goodreads:
Starting a new life is never easy, but Alyssa Doe has turned it into an art form. Abandoned by her parents at age ten, six years in foster care has taught Alyssa how to get through life the hard way.
Now sixteen and growing desperate for a stable life, Alyssa finds herself puzzled by her newest keeper, twenty-five year old Jessica Sona. A feisty woman who does not accept no for an answer, Jessica’s insistence and passion for safety, family, and unconditional love begin to break down Alyssa’s walls and bring her hope, a dangerous emotion.
Can such a thing as family and love exist for a girl whose birth name is Doe, or will Alyssa be forever left finding keepers?

About the Author:

Fixing broken computers, wrangling a very spirited little toddler, and creating new fantasy worlds are all parts of the average day for Kristi Strong. While she has called Virginia her home for two decades, her head has rested in two countries, three states, and far too many houses to count. She was more than happy to give up her nomadic lifestyle and settle down with her husband, daughter, cat and chinchilla.

My Thoughts: 4 Stars
When I first read about this book, I knew I had to read it. It's a little different than what I've been reading lately, but I've always liked this type of book. I love Alyssa's character. You see that she has been hurt in the past, but throughout the book you really just see her grow and blossom. This book turned out a whole lot different than what I was thinking when I first sat down to read it, but not in a bad way. Just unexpected. I love the way Kristi Strong weaved this story. She really made me emotionally invested in the characters, which we all know is important. She is definitely going on my author watch list, and I can't wait to see what she puts out next!
If you are looking for a nice, slightly emotional story with strong characters and a well thought out plot, I recommend you give Finding Keepers a shot. Alyssa's world is one I happily immersed myself in. A highly related character even in a not-so-relatable(for me) situation. I will be recommending this book for a while!

Three Young Adult Authors Walk into a Book Store...

...and Come Out Managing a Publishing House!
That's very nearly what recently happened to young adult authors Shannon Delany, Judith Graves, and Jen Murgia  except there was no book store and they don't live close enough to do much "in real life" together. "That's the great thing about technology and social media," Delany laughs.

"This all began because I opened my mouth on Facebook and it earned me a phone call. I was toying with the idea of founding my own little publishing house and Judith Graves contacted me. After a few emails and one fateful phone call the ball was rolling!"

Graves, a longtime Leap author (and a respected script writer and author with additional houses) suggested she and Delany team up and take over the SHINE e-novella line she was building through established small publisher Leap Books LLC.

When owner Laurie Edwards heard about it, she suggested they take on the entire company. Not long after, Delany found herself the owner and publisher of the well-loved house with Graves as her very capable co-publisher.

But the duo knew it would take even more people to give Leap's books and authors, both old and new, the attention they needed. Delany contacted author Jennifer Murgia and asked her to come aboard as Marketing Director. With the addition of William Gee as CFO and additional team members to bolster the services they provide authors, the new Leap management team feels certain they can each focus on the things they do best.

Readers can look forward to edgy and memorable stories filled with characters who leap off the pages. Of special note is the new e-novella line, SHINE, headed up by Graves and specializing in YA and NA.

Authors of all YA and NA genres can submit through their agents to any of Leap's lines (submission details are HERE). And, this year to celebrate Delany's birthday in mid-October, Leap will open its doors for unagented stories for a brief period.

For now Delany suggests readers and writers alike leap into the contest running until August 8th at http://leapbks.blogspot.ca/ and says if you're serious about writing for a publisher, first give a few of their books a read.

Book Blitz: The Falling of Love by Marisa Oldham

Publisher: Indie World Publishing & Author Services

About The Falling of Love:
You will never forget your first date, your first kiss, or your first love. You'll also never forget how it felt when it was torn apart.

Seventeen-year old Grace Hathaway does not give much thought to falling in love, until the day that Ian Taylor, rebel and misfit walks into her math class. From their first conversation, Grace is mesmerized by Ian's charisma and rock star façade.

Ian Taylor, a seventeen-year old kid from the wrong side of the tracks tries to ignore the feelings he has for Grace, but is captured by her caring, non-judgmental personality from the moment they meet. Grace becomes Ian's everything and there is nothing he will not do for her. Hurting her was never part of his plan.

***Recommended for ages 18+ due to sexual content and strong language.***

Excerpt:
Ian lies with his head on Grace’s stomach. Entwining their fingers together, they lie in silence on her bed. They have been this way for hours and he wishes they could stay like this forever. Only an occasional “I love you” is shared between them. Thunder cracks in the sky and startles Grace.

Ian chuckles and pulls her closer to his body. The rhythmic sound of the rain tapping against the rooftop and her comforting presence lures him into a state of pure relaxation, soothing his soul.

“I love the sound of the rain,” she says, as she traces the lines on his knuckle with the tip of her finger.

Ian raises his head to look into her eyes and smiles. “And I love you.”
Climbing on top of her, he lowers his lips to her neck. Grace lets out a heavy sigh that blows through his hair. Ian trails kisses down her neck, over her collarbone, and stops inches away from her lips. “Do you know that I love you, Gracie?”

“Yeah, I do, without a doubt.”

He kisses her. “I know you love me too, and it’s freaking amazing,” he says. “You know what I love?”
She smiles at him. “Me?”

He laughs. “Besides you. It’s something you do to me.”

She looks at him, puzzled. “What?”

“I love those soft, sweet kisses you give me on the cheek. It’s hands-down one of the best things you do to me.”

Grace brushes Ian’s long auburn hair out of his face and slowly leans into him. Her breath hits his cheek and the tip of her nose brushes his skin. She gives him a very soft, sweet kiss on his cheek.

“Ah yeah, babe. That’s it. That’s what I love. It’s so sweet and tells me that you love me without any words.” He reaches for her face and cups her chin in between his thumb and forefinger.
He pulls her face to his and sucks on her bottom lip. Gradually, he eases his tongue between her two lips and finds her eagerly awaiting his kiss.

“Do you know what I love, Ian?” she asks. Her words are a jumbled mess between Ian’s kisses.

“What, baby?” he says within a breath.

“I love kissing you. I could spend the rest of my life kissing only you. You’re the best kisser in the entire world.”

About Between Before and After:
Five friends. Three days. One heart-stopping discovery.

Three years ago, Danny Morris left behind a gun, a tonne of questions and a gaping hole in the lives of those who loved him. What he didn’t leave was a suicide note.

On the anniversary of his death, his closest friends gather at his parents’ beach house in New Zealand's idyllic Marlborough Sounds. Danny’s girlfriend, Kate, holds fast to his memory by continuing to live in the house they shared.
Struggling to move on with her life, her blossoming feelings for Danny’s best friend, Finn, only complicate matters. Withdrawing from his high-flying lifestyle, Max has carved out a much simpler life. Self-medicating with alcohol, fighting off nightmares he refuses to talk about, the memory of finding Danny’s body has him sailing dangerously close to the edge. While Finn is finally ready to address his feelings for Kate, trying to save Max from himself dredges up long-buried anger and frustration that threaten to overwhelm him. For Lacey and Gavin, a recent bereavement gives them a heart-wrenching insight of a different kind.

Instead of time easing the pain, the group find themselves stuck in limbo, awaiting the understanding and peace that has so far eluded them.

Three years ago, a single bullet ricocheted through all of them - and this year everything will change again.

My Thoughts:
* I received this book for review from the author, this in no way affects my thoughts expressed below*
       4.5 of 5 Stars
I was so excited going into this book. I follow this author on her Facebook page, and had seen so many amazing teasers that really drew me in.

"Three years ago, Danny Morris left behind a gun, a tonne of questions and a gaping hole in the lives of those who loved him. What he didn’t leave was a suicide note."

Yeah, that's enough to make anyone curious! On the anniversary of his death his friends gather together at his parent's New Zealand beach house. Though this sounds morbid and scary and maybe not something you'd usually read I recommend you give it a shot. All of the characters are dealing with their pain in different ways, and the book truly brought so many emotions out in me. I was a little confused at some points, but that happens when there are so many characters I suppose. I don't feel like it took too much away from the book.

I have to say, the writing style of the author so made the book. It feels like Amanda Dick was sitting in front of me telling this story. It flows that smooth. I feel like this is one of those books that needs to be written. It's not just about Danny, it's about the people left in the aftermath. The ones he left behind. Their gut-wrenching, unbearable pain. Their struggle to move on when they are just as lost and confused as when the bullet echoed. This beautiful, heart-wrenching story is one that will stay with me for a long time. To fans of books that make you think, about life, about death, about everything: this is a book you might just fall in love with.

 Meet Kate!
Excerpt:
“I’m in charge of collecting the mussels for dinner – chef’s orders,” she smiled over her shoulder, heading for the steps.

“I’ll come with you,” Finn said immediately, putting his beer on the deck beside his chair and standing up.The thoughts she had had earlier made another appearance, and she quickly pushed them aside. She couldn’t spend the next few days avoiding him just because she had some kind of girly crush she was having trouble getting over.

He fell into step beside her as they made their way over the lawn and down onto the sandy beach. She struggled for something to say to ease the tension but for once, nothing came.

“How’s your stomach?” Finn asked finally.

“It’s fine now.” She smiled over at him briefly as they strolled along the sand towards the jetty closest to the house. “Maybe those seasickness pills finally kicked in.”

They reached the weather-beaten wooden jetty and he climbed up onto it first, offering her his hand. Gingerly, she took it. His fingers closed around hers, safe and solid and reliable, and she had to keep telling herself that it was nothing, he was just being his usual, chivalrous self. She wished her heart would stop thumping in her ears so she could think straight.

He pulled her up onto the jetty next to him. Being in such close proximity didn’t help clear up any of the confusion she felt – if anything, it made it worse. Part of her wanted to crawl into his arms. The other part of her wanted to run from him. She kept telling herself that he had Kelly – he wasn’t available. Even if he was, she wasn’t sure that would make any difference. If he would just keep his distance, she could get over this infatuation, or whatever the hell this was. Only, he didn’t seem to be able to do that.

They walked in silence down the length of the jetty. The water was a gorgeous azure blue, clear and shallow beneath them. A multitude of sea life attached themselves to the pylons, including starfish and mussels. She wasn’t normally a huge fan of mussels, but it always seemed to be the thing to do here, and she was keen to keep up the old traditions, the ones that Danny had started when they first began coming here all those years ago. It seemed important, a way of keeping his memory alive.

“Watch your step,” he warned, heading down the few wooden steps built into the side of the jetty, leading into the water.

The steps were slippery at the best of times, and she took them slowly, following him. He reached for the bowl and she handed it to him as he began to collect the mussels that had attached themselves to the pylons, dropping them into the bowl. It wasn’t a two-person job, so she sat down on the step, smoothing her skirt down over her thighs. She searched for something safe to talk about.

“So, how’s Kelly?” she ventured, keeping her tone casual.

He stopped what he was doing and sat back on his heels. “We broke up.”

“What? When?”

”About a month ago? Something like that.”

Today was February fifteenth. Six weeks after what happened between them at New Years. Was he trying to tell her something?

“I’m so sorry – I didn’t know. Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Didn’t want to make a big deal out of it.”

She got the feeling he might have been waiting for the right moment to tell her. Did the others know? If they did, they hadn’t mentioned it. Had he asked them not to? Was she reading too much into this? Her head spun.

“It was a mutual thing,” he continued. “It just wasn’t working. She wanted the whole deal – big wedding, couple of kids, white picket fence.”

“And you didn’t?”

He stared at the mussels he had piled in the bowl at his feet. “That’s the thing,” he said, “I did want all that – I mean, I do want all that. Just not with her.”

The pregnant silence between them was almost as deafening as the cicadas.
 About the Author:
Amanda Dick is a night-owl, coffee addict, movie buff and music lover.  She also writes.

Born in Opotiki, New Zealand, she is rather partial to dark chocolate and believes in the power of a good vanilla latte.  She has a passion for the colour green (particularly in clothes and gemstones) and insists there is nothing sexier than a man in a kilt.

She spent several months traveling around Europe in her late 20’s (there’s a story there – she’ll get around to writing it one day).  After ridding herself of her wanderlust, she met the love of her life (while working to pay off said wanderlust) in Edinburgh, Scotland.  They moved in together the week after their first date – so yes, she believes in love at first sight.  She also believes in Women's Intuition and following your heart.

She writes on her trusty laptop, predominantly late at night, when it's quiet and interruptions are few.  Most of all, she enjoys writing about human behaviour - love, loss, joy, grief, friendship and relationships in general.  She loves to put normal, everyday people into situations that will test their boundaries.  She is passionately curious about how we, as human beings, react when pushed to the edge.

After living in Scotland for five years, she has now settled back home in New Zealand, where she lives with her husband and two children.

Q&A With The Author:
1.) Hey Amanda! First off, I really loved reading your book: Between Before And After. One thing I think is really cool about your book is you don't focus so much on the person who ended their life, but the ones that have to live with his decision. I feel like this could really help people going through a similar situation out there I have to ask, what prompted you to write a book about such a serious subject? You did a great job with it, I think, by the way!

A: Wow, great question! Yes, this book was always about the aftermath of suicide, rather than the decision itself. Mainly, I think, because oftentimes the decision is made in private. I hope that this book WILL find it's way into those who it may really be able to help, those who are perhaps thinking the world would be better off without them. If only they knew the impact their life has made on others, and how their decision will haunt those left behind. As to my inspiration, it came from the childhood friend of my husband's, who committed suicide in the late 90's. I saw how it affected my husband, and the questions it raised amongst those who knew his friend. It completely blindsided everyone, so unexpected. My writer's mind wanted to explore that, so I created Danny Morris. I deliberately kept his character in the background throughout the book, not showing his side of the story, as I believe that the story, while overshadowed by his actions, wasn't actually about him. It was about his decision and how it affected those who loved him.

2.) What was the hardest part of writing this book?

A: Showing each character as an individual, and how each was handling their grief. We deal with grief differently, and I wanted to show that in the book, through the characters. Writing Max's point of view was harder than the others, only because I was more graphic with what he had seen. Sitting there at my desk, researching gunshot wounds to the head on the internet, it was pretty horrifying. It wasn't as difficult as I thought to put myself in Max's shoes - but it was difficult to get to sleep some nights, with those images swimming around in my head. It's hard to switch off sometimes. It's natural for your imagination to wander, and it doesn't take very much to kick-start it!

3.) So Amanda, I think one more very important question I have to ask is, what's in store for us next? Do you have another book in the works?

As it happens, I'm working on another story at the moment. Called "Into the Void", it's a murder/mystery about a missing person. I don't want to give away any spoilers, but it's a bit darker than my first two books. As with the others though, it focuses on finding hope out of tragedy

Cover Reveal: Shameless by Nina Lemay

So happy to be one of the blogs hosting the cover reveal for Nina Lemay's NA Contemporary Romance! See it below and continue for the giveaway:

Release date: August 18th 2014

Synopsis via Goodreads:
~New Adult Contemporary Romance -- recommended for mature readers~

Girls like me don’t get happy endings.

I know what I am. At worst a cliché, at best a cautionary tale. I put an international border between me and my past, only to wind up working in a low-end titty bar. Even my excuse is as lame as it gets: I’m paying for college, getting my art degree from Montreal’s most prestigious school. Although some days it becomes confusing: am I just a student who moonlights as a stripper, or a stripper who masquerades as a student?

But the inevitable happens and my two lives collide. And now there’s one other person who knows both the quiet, antisocial Hannah and the sensual, shameless Alicia. One person who keeps my secret.

He’s beautiful, he’s sophisticated. He comes from the other side of life, the one where I’m not wanted or accepted. But he calls me la petite Américaine, and his hot, hot hands on my skin promise me things I long ago gave up on.

The problem? He teaches my Classic Photography class.

This is a standalone novel, no series, no cliffhanger.

Nina LemayAbout the Author
Nina Lemay is a YA writer by day and author of sinfully twisted New Adult…well, also by day. She loves all things dark and edgy and never tires of tormenting her characters. While Nina is a fan of all things scary, Gothic, and fantastic, she doesn’t shy away from a gritty contemporary romance when the muse strikes. She lives in Montreal, a city that never fails to inspire, with her partner and her dog.

EXCERPT
--------------------------

His hand slides, hesitant, across the edge of his seat as he leans closer. The black ink of the letters on his knuckles is stark against his skin.

“Show me,” I say.

And he kisses me. Our lips don’t meet smooth and choreographed like in movies. The stubble on his cheek grazes the corner of my mouth, leaving behind a burning trail, and then his lips cover mine. Nothing hesitant about them. Assertive, self-assured like I thought his kiss would be, the promise of those strong hands and broad shoulders and arrogant posture made real. But he’s anything but arrogant. He gently nips on my lower lip and his hands caress my neck, my jaw, cup my face. He’s holding me like I’m something fragile and precious.

I’m afraid to close my eyes.

He has that lavender scent, sharp and clean, with a note of wild muskiness lurking underneath when you get close enough—that note that’s just him. I don’t know what to do with my hands so I slip them under his jacket and put them on his waist, right above his belt. I finally start to sketch out what his body looks like under his shirt: sinewy and fit and hard.

His hands finally move on, mirroring mine, down to my bare belly exposed by my cropped top. The little hairs along my spine stand on end. An involuntary shudder courses through me, making my abs tighten and quiver. His hand finds the small of my back and settles there, guiding me forward with smooth confidence, pulling me toward him. The heat of his palm melts through my skin into my bones and up my spine, softening my muscles until my entire body feels like hot wax held together by a membrane of skin. I tuck my hand under his belt, just the fingertips—past the hem of his shirt where the pads of my fingers find hot, smooth skin over taut muscle.

He groans softly into my mouth. I lean in and slide onto his lap, barely aware that I’m clambering over a car seat. It’s just so smooth and natural, the grooves of our bodies clicking together like a jigsaw puzzle. His hands on my waist, spreading goosebumps all over my belly, up my back and down my arms; then they move up, up, under my top, stopping when they find my bra. Pausing, hesitant.

I kiss my way along his jaw and his neck, peel away the collar of his shirt to continue down his clavicle. His hand settles over my bra and I can feel its heat through the fabric, a tiny little jolt of sensation that lights up my nerve endings like a Christmas tree.

My mind floats up, under the closed sunroof of the Audi, and watches me from there, impassive. I’m aware of everything I’m doing, too aware, but I don’t stop. My body continues like an automaton, the lips, the hands, performing the motions. Like I’m a car on cruise control, easing into the familiar mode. I know what happens next.

A part of me, very deep down, hopes I don’t.

Only one way to find out.

I go for his belt buckle, find it, tug on it. It yields with a soft clink.

And just as I’m about to stick my hand down his pants, he pulls away.

“’Annah,” he pants. His hand slips out from under my shirt and dives down to catch my wrist. His fingers wrap around my wrist bone, strong and firm.

Maybe it’s the touch that zaps me back into my body, disrupts my functioning. The false step that throws off the whole routine, the bad note that ruins the aria.

“What?” I whisper. My body’s nerves settle into normal mode one by one.

“No.”

“Why not?”

“This isn’t right. This is… overstepping.”

I sit back. I’m still balancing with my shins on his legs—kind of like at work when I lean in, my hair brushing over a customer’s face, and ask in a seductive whisper if he wants another dance.

I blink at him in utter dismay. Thrown off. Tossed overboard into unfamiliar territory and I don’t know what to do.

But I want to be doing this, I start to say. We aren’t doing anything wrong. “I’m attracted to you,” he says. His voice still holds a hint of breathlessness. “But then again, you already knew that.”

“But I’m—” I’m attracted to you too. This much should be obvious.
“I know,” he says softly. He lets go of my wrist and instead takes my hand between his hot, hot palms. He brings it to his lips. “But this isn’t right.”
